VEOVA™* Monomer

VEOVA Monomer 10 is a monomer that can offer a variety of unique properties to polymers prepared from it and other comonomers. Products containing VEOVA 10 can be used for many different end-uses, including latex paints, specialty coatings, cement additives and adhesives. VEOVA 10 is a vinyl ester of versatic acid--a branched carboxylic acid of 10 carbons. Inclusion of this monomer in polymer systems introduces hydrophobicity to the polymer that can provide hydrocarbon solubility or a low-energy coating surface and also add steric bulk to the polymer providing protection to less stable monomers.

Application

VEOVA Monomer 10 reacts readily with vinyl acetate to prepare binders for interior and exterior paint. The ease of preparation and the superior performance of these latex systems has enabled VEOVA-based systems to capture a large portion of the latex paint market in Western Europe. Latexes also can be made from VEOVA and various acrylates that can be used as coatings for wood and plastics.

Vinyl acetate/VEOVA systems can also be used to prepare cement additives, inks or adhesvies or to treat textiles.
