Acrylic Monomers
RSM Sokolov plant produces Acrylid Acid and 4 basic esters of AA,
ie. Methyl Acrylate (MA), Ethyl Acrylate (EA),Butylacrylate(BA) and
2-Ethylhexyl Acrylate (2-EHA). AA is used either as the raw material
for acrylate esters or as a monomer itself for various applications.
There three main application for AA:
- Super absorbent polymers ( SAP)
- Floculants
- Detergent polymers
Acrylic Acid is also used as comopolymer for acrylic copolymer
dispersions and polyacrylates (thickeners, dispersants and so on..)
MA is used
- as comonomer with acrylonitrile for acrylic fibres,
- as an intermediate for antioxidants
- as an intermediate for water treatment chemicals
- as impact modifier in PMMA
EA is used
- In water based acrylic dispersion for textile, leather and
polishes as well as for coatings
BA is used
- In water based acrylic dispersions ,particularly for coatings,
but together with 2-EHA also for adhesives
- In impact modifiers and process aids with PVC
- With ethylene to produce ethylene-BA copolymers
2-EHA is used
- For adhesives and coatings
- Special adhesive formulation (labels)
